A Community Foundation is a non-profit public charity that collects charitable gifts of cash, assets, property, etc. and pools these gifts for the future betterment of a community. Most of these contributions are placed into an endowment fund where future investment income is distributed as grants to local charitable or public organizations. The fund is maintained in perpetuity and continues to grow with each new gift, generating income to meet a wide range of community interests and needs for years to come.
“A community is the mental and spiritual condition of knowing that the place is shared, and that the people who share the place define and limit the possibilities of each other's lives. It is the knowledge that people have of each other, their concern for each other, their trust in each other, the freedom with which they come and go among themselves.”
