Our Background |

Founded by six members of the Seeley Lake community in 2000, the Seeley Lake Community Foundation endeavors to improve the social, economic, cultural, environmental, artistic, educational and recreational well-being of the residents of Seeley Lake. Starting with only a few hundred dollars collected from these six visionary individuals, the Foundation has accepted over $400,000 in charitable contributions through 2008. Our by-laws serve as our guiding document and we have established policies to ensure we meet federal requirements for governing a non-profit organization, including a conflict of interest policy.. |

What is a community Foundation? |
| |
A community foundation is a non-profit, public charity that collects charitable gifts of cash, assets, property, etc. and pools these gifts for the future betterment of a community. Most of these contributions are placed into an endowment fund where future investment income is distributed as grants to local charitable or public organizations. The fund is maintained in perpetuity and continues to grow with each new gift, generating income to meet a wide range of community interests and needs for years to come. |

How do we operate? |

The Foundation has obtained non-profit status with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3, thereby allowing all charitable contributions to be tax deductible to the maximum extent allowable by state and federal laws. The Foundation is governed by an all volunteer member Board of Directors and our committees are run by Board members and community volunteers. We are always looking for more volunteers to help us realize the full potential of this wonderful organization, so please contact us if you are interested in helping out in any way. |
